Bali - Komodo -
Bali
&
KLM Moana

This will
be Moana's third year of operation, she has positioned herself to Bali and
is operating three very nice programs that can fit most any interest. I like
her 8 day program, it's quick and can provide you
with some special insight into what sailing here in Indonesia is all about.Moana's
other programs are equally interesting providing the popular Bali to Komodo
and back to Bali in a 10 day formate. This vessel
is very well appointed and will provide you with a comfortable "small group" experience that will be remembered for every !
DEPARTURE DATES 2009
Keeping in mind your time requirements this vessel has developed a fly one way & cruise the other direction programs. If you are trying to pack Komodo into your holiday, this program for 2008 should be on your short list. Please note that this program operates one way via Komodo-Bali via flight on alternating weeks.
BASIC ITINERARY
8 Days / 7 Nights " Bali - Komodo or Komodo - Bali
ISLANDS EXPLORER CRUISE
1. Day: Bali – Gili Trawangan/Lombok
Transfer from your Hotel to the Loana, anchoring at Serangan Island on the southeast coast of Bali. After a refreshing welcome drink , we set sails heading east. Now it is time for a short introduction to the facilities of our vessel and the tour program . Afterwards, there is only one thing left to do: relax and enjoy great views, while we are steaming along the shores of Bali, through Lombok Street, to the Gili Islands/Lombok , towards our first stop: Gili Trawangan.
2. Day: The Gilis
Lombok is often described as " Bali before the tourist" – an island with unspoiled white beaches, craft villages and rice terraces carved into landscapes of stunning beauty. The Gili coral islets surrounding Lombok are an underwater paradise for snorkelers and divers. Our first day in paradise is dedicated to swimming, beach walking on the white sandy beaches of Gili Trawangan and a visit of the bird park at Gili Meno . Cars and motorbikes don't belong on any of the three islands, only horse-drawn carts called “cidomos” or rental bikes. At the markets eye-catching multicolored sarongs hang on frames next to primitive elongated wooden masks carved by native Sasak people.
The sun in the back, we continue our cruise to the east to our next fascinating location: Moyo & the Bay of Saleh.
3. Day: Moyo & Saleh Bay
Arriving at Moyo Island - a nature reserve covered with monsoon forest is located at the entrance to Saleh Bay in North Sumbawa, we make an excursion to an exquisite three-tiered waterfall . We feel like kings when we take a plunge the waterfall into the natural pool of clear and cool water . Not with the slightest hurry we head to our next destination, the Bay of Saleh where we visit a very origin fisherman village . A starlight dinner on deck will be the perfect end to an exciting day.
4. Day: Satonda
After a tropical breakfast, swimming and snorkeling, we start our cruise to visit the famous Island of Satonda. Satonda itself is a volcano , a small black basaltic cone rising out of the sea. After landing on its little beach, we follow a trail to a cleft in the cone, and enter the volcano's caldera. Only this short walk from the beach lays the mysterious Crater Lake where the trees are adorned with hundreds of stones on a rope. Locals come here to make a wish while attaching a stone on a branch of a tree. When the rope breaks your wish comes true ... Sunset Dinner in the bay of Satonda
5. Day: Sape - Komodo National Park
Early morning we depart for the all day cruise to Komodo. We enjoy a fabulous day, cruising with Loana along the north side of Sumbawa... watch the landscape passing by… timeout from the workaday at home… use our fishing equipment or just relax on Loana’s sundeck. Before we enter the Region of Komodo we stop in Sape to fill up our water tanks and get some fresh vegetable and fruits. Shipyards are still building sailboats the traditional way in this port town on Sumbawa's East Coast. Sape is a convenient harbor for a stop over for boats on their way to the Komodo National Park. We will accompany you if you like to have a walk onshore or to see the traditional Shipyards.
6. Day: Komodo National Park
Arriving at Komodo Island we have to register our visit to the administration of the National Park. Around their office you will see the first Dragons and you can by souvenirs like eye-catching necklaces and wooden figures carved by the locals. Komodo dragons are the world's largest lizards. They live on the islands of Komodo, Rinca and other tiny surrounding islands, and on the westernmost part of Flores Island in Indonesia. Komodo and Rinca are odd islands. They are dry, hot, and relatively barren compared to the lush and jungle islands to the east and west of them in the Nusa Tenggara island chain. After our short visit to Komodo Island we start to Rinca where we overnight in a beautiful lagoon.
7. Day: Rinca - Sape
After an early breakfast we start a two hours track at Rinca . We walk through the island to observe the Komodo Dragons in their pure environment as well as an opportunity to observe other animals such as deer, horses, birds etc, in their wild life. After return to the boat we have the opportunity to swim or snorkel on the clean and white sandy beach. After lunch we start our cruise back to Sape for overnight.
8. Day: Bima - Bali
After breakfast you will be transferred to Bima where your airplane to Bali is waiting for you.
* NOTE: FLIGHT Bima-Bali (approx 75 usd) extra
